Some decrease in speed is expected when using a VPN. Feel free to take a look at our article where we have described potential changes in your connection speed.

If you have noticed, that the connection speed has decreased more than it should, try adjustments below.

  •  Choose the OpenVPN UDP protocol for a VPN connection.

OpenVPN UDP protocol might be faster in general.

  • Try several servers.

Sometimes one server location might be faster compared to others. That depends on the server load, the distance between you and the server or some other external factors.

  • Set up custom DNS on your device.

  • Try to connect to Surfshark servers using the Network Manager.

Here is our tutorial for that.

  • Reboot your router.

  • Temporarily disable file-sharing (P2P) software.

If none of the suggestions above help to increase the speed, do not hesitate to contact our Customer Success Sharks and they will help you out!
