How to enable 2FA on your Surfshark account?

There are 2 ways to set up 2-factor-authentication on your Surfshark account:

  • Using authentication application (Google Authenticator or Authy);
  • Authentication using your email address.

We would recommend using the authentication application due to its simplicity and ease of use.

Method no.1. Set up 2-factor-authentiation on your Surfshark account using authentication application:

  1. Log in to your Surfshark account.
  2. Click the “Enable 2FA” button.
  3. Click “Okay” in the pop-up window where you will be informed that enabling 2FA will log out you from your Surfshark account.

     4. Choose to use the authentication app as your authentication method and you will get a pop-up with a QR code.

     5. Now go to the Google Play Store if you are using an Android phone or Apple App Store if you have an iPhone and install the Google Authenticator application to your phone.

     6. Open the application, click on the red circle, choose the “Scan a barcode” option. The phone camera will open, point it to the QR code on your desktop. A new authentication profile will be automatically added to the application and now you will see it marked with “Surfshark”.

     8. Download or make a screenshot of recovery codes. They will be necessary in case you would accidentally delete the Google Authenticator application.

Now your account is secured with an extra layer of authentication. Next time you will need to log in to your account, after entering your username and password, you will be asked to enter a temporary code. Open the Google Authenticator app and enter the code that you see in your created Surfshark profile.

Method no.2. Set up 2-factor-authentication on your Surfshark account using your email:

  1. Log in to your Surfshark account.
  2. Click “Enable 2FA”
  3. Click “Okay” in the pop-up window where you will be informed that enabling 2FA will log out you from your Surfshark account.

     6. Download recovery codes to your computer or make a screenshot. You will need recovery codes in case you would lose access to your email inbox.

Now you're all set! Even if your password is stolen, you will always be the only person who has access to this account.

Did you know that you can also set up 2FA for multiple users if you are sharing your account with your family members? Find out how.
