How to enable 2FA on your Surfshark account

In this tutorial, you will learn how to set up 2FA (two-factor authentication) on your Surfshark account. If you're unsure why you should do this, check what 2FA is and why it is important.

We will go through the following:

  1. Setting up 2FA via an authentication application (Google Authenticator or Authy)
  2. Setting up 2FA with your email address

Setting up 2FA via an authentication application (such as Google Authenticator or Authy)

  7. Open the Google Authenticator app, and click on the circle with a plus sign.

A new authentication profile named Surfshark will appear automatically.

  9. Get back to your account at Surfshark dashboard. To confirm the activation of 2FA, enter the six digits you see under the Surfshark authentication profile. Click Next.

  10. Download recovery codes in a text file. Click Done when the download finishes.

NOTE: You may need recovery codes to regain access to your account if you accidentally delete the authentication app. We highly recommend saving the recovery codes on multiple devices or in cloud storage.

Next time you log in to your account, you will also need to enter a temporary verification code after entering your username and password. Open the Google Authenticator app and enter the code under the Surfshark profile.

Setting up 2FA with your email address
