How to set up your Zgemma STB with Enigma2

In this tutorial, you will learn how to configure the Surfshark VPN tunnel on your Zgemma STB or Enigma2.

To proceed, you first need an active Surfshark subscription. You can find the available plans on Surfshark’s pricing page.

Get your credentials


NOTE: These are not your regular credentials, such as your email and password.

  1. Enter the Surfshark login page and log in. Then, click on VPN > Manual Setup > Router > OpenVPN to generate your credentials.

  2. Once there, make sure that you are in the Credentials tab and click on Generate credentials.

    NOTE: Keep this tab open as we'll need it later.

Choose a Surfshark server

  1. Open the same page on another browser tab, go to the Locations tab, and locate the server that you wish to connect to.

  2. Click on the download icon to the right of the server name and click on Download UDP.

Configure the OpenVPN client

 

  1. Open the downloaded .ovpn configuration file with your preferred text editor. We recommend using WordPad, which is a built-in Windows text editor, or NotePad++ (a third-party text editor).

  2. Add login.txt string next to the auth-user-pass line and save the configuration file as client.conf:

  3. Create a new text file. Name it login.txt and paste the Surfshark service credentials (refer to Get your credentials section of the article).

    Enter the generated username into the first line of the text file and the password into the second line.

  4. Connect to your device through Telnet and enter the following command:
    opkg install openvpn.

  5. When the setup is complete, reboot the device.

  6. Connect to your device through FTP or SSH, and create a new folder named openvpn in the /etc/ path. After that, upload the client.conf and login.txt files to the /etc/openvpn folder.

  7. Start OpenVPN by going to Menu >Setup >System >Network >OpenVPN Setup >Press Green To Start OpenVPN.

 

Ensure the connection is successful

 

We always recommend checking if Surfshark VPN is working after setting it up for the first time. You can easily do it by performing Surfshark IP leak test and a DNS leak test. For your convenience, both are available on our website.
