How to make your Dedicated IP anonymous

In this article, you will learn how to use Surfshark's Dedicated IP anonymously. You might want that for extra privacy compared to using the regular Dedicated IP.

To proceed, you will need a Surfshark subscription. Once you have it, go to your Surfshark's dashboard and navigate to VPN > Dedicated IP.

How does Dedicated IP anonymization work?

When you anonymize your Dedicated IP address, your account information will no longer be linked to your IP address. This means that even we won't know that the IP address is yours.

However, it's important that you keep your Dedicated IP token information for yourself so that you can use it on other devices in the future.

Download configuration files & save your credentials

If you're using a router or any other manual connection, you'll need the configuration files to connect manually. Even if you don't need the setup in the future, it's worth saving these files if you change your mind. Follow the steps below to download the configuration files now.

Note: You must save your credentials from the configuration files in this step, as you won’t be able to access them later.

1. Open up Surfshark's website and Log in. Navigate to the Dedicated IP section. To download the configuration files, simply click on the configuration file (WireGuard, OpenVPN, or IKEv2).
   
   
   
2. Then, proceed to press the download button. The configuration file with all its details will be downloaded to your device afterward.
   
   
   
3. For IKEv2 or OpenVPN connections, make sure to save the credentials to a .txt file or cloud storage of your choice by clicking on the configuration and copying them.
   
   

Anonymize your Dedicated IP

NOTE: Once the anonymization process starts, it cannot be undone.

1. Click on the Remove my records button.
   
   
   
2. NOTE: You will get a warning — further proceeding with these steps, you acknowledge that you will no longer have the right to claim a refund and that all the information about your Dedicated IP address will be removed from our databases.
   
   Tick both of the boxes and press Start to continue.
   
   
   
3. Download your Dedicated IP Token. Once you press the Download token button, a .txt file with your Dedicated IP token will be downloaded to your device. 
   
   NOTE: Save this token on multiple devices or cloud storage, as you will no longer be able to access it after this process is finished.
   
   
   
4. Provide your Dedicated IP token in order to prove that you have saved it.
   
   Before the process is completed, you can access your token ID in the Surfshark app's (Android, iOS, Windows, macOS) Dedicated IP tab or your Surfshark dashboard.
   
   Enter your token and press the Confirm token button to proceed.
   
   
   
5. Once you confirm your token, you are able to download the configuration files. Proceed by pressing the download button for each one.
   
   NOTE: If you still need to download the configuration files, you must do it now. Otherwise, you will no longer be able to access them.
   
   
   
6. You'll get an additional warning to save your configuration files. We recommend double-checking that you have successfully downloaded them. By default, they go directly into your computer's Downloads folder.
   
   Once you are sure that you have the configuration files saved, click the Yes, I saved it button.
   
   
   
7. You will receive a confirmation message stating that you have completed the anonymization process of your Dedicated IP.
    
   

Connect to your Dedicated IP after anonymizing it

To connect to your Dedicated IP via the app, follow these steps. They are applicable to all versions of the Surfshark app (Windows, MacOS, Android, and iOS)

1. Open the Surfshark app and navigate to the Dedicated IP tab. On Android and iOS versions of the app, it is under the Locations section.
   
   
2. Once there, if you haven't connected to your Dedicated IP before anonymizing it, you will be asked to input your Token Key. Once you do so, press the Activate button.
   
   
3. Now, you will get a notification that your Dedicated IP is ready to be used.
