Bypasser

  • Bypasser allows you to exclude specific apps and websites from the VPN tunnel. This is useful if you want certain services to connect directly to your regular internet while others remain protected by Surfshark:

  • When you toggle Bypasser on, you can choose one of two modes:
    • Bypass VPN – selected apps and websites will NOT use the VPN. They connect directly to the internet while everything else stays protected.
    • Route via VPN – selected apps and websites WILL use the VPN. Everything else connects without VPN protection:

Ad blocker

  • Ad blocker blocks ads, trackers, malicious websites, and phishing attempts. This feature only works when you're connected to the VPN:

Kill switch

  • Kill switch protects you by blocking all internet traffic if your VPN connection drops unexpectedly. This ensures your real IP address and data are never exposed, even if the VPN disconnects:

Protocol

A protocol is an encryption technology used to connect to the VPN. You can choose between:

  • Automatic – Surfshark selects the best protocol for your network.
  • WireGuard – faster speeds for streaming and browsing.
  • IKEv2 – balanced option for reliable performance.
  • OpenVPN (UDP or TCP) – more stable connection in challenging network conditions.
