Before we begin, we highly recommend downloading Surfshark apps to ensure the best performance and security, as well as the hassle-free setup. At the moment, we have apps for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, Chrome, Firefox, Fire TV.
If the Surfshark VPN app can not be installed on your device, you may try our Smart DNS feature. It will allow you to unblock the US content of many streaming services online. You may use Smart DNS on Apple TV (& other smart TVs), Xbox, Playstation. You will find all our tutorials on how to use Smart DNS here.
You will not be able to use these routers with Surfshark (at least with their default firmware):
- Fritz Box
- Linksys (except Tomato supported routers from this list)
- Google WiFi
- Most ISP provided routers
Usually, these routers do not support OpenVPN protocol by default. However, you should be able to set it up with custom DD-WRT firmware and let the sharks protect your home network. You can find a list of DD-WRT friendly D-Link, Netgear, TP-Link routers HERE and everything you need to know about this firmware HERE.
If you do have DD-WRT installed on your router, please refer to our article on setting it up.
If your router supports a VPN client, setup is pretty easy. HERE you can find our setup guides for most of the routers.
Please note that Surfshark is not to be held responsible for any damage done to the router or void of warranty that could be caused by flashing your router.
