In this article, you will learn how to set up a WireGuard® connection on VPN Fusion. VPN Fusion allows simultaneous connections to multiple VPN servers and device-specific VPN tunnel assignments. This feature provides broad network protection without the need for installing additional software and is available on some Asus router models as an update.
To set up WireGuard® on Asus VPN Fusion, you first need an active Surfshark subscription. You can find the available plans on Surfshark's pricing page.
Note: WireGuard® is supported by VPN Fusion firmware versions 3.0.0.4.388.20000 or later. For information on how to update your router's firmware, check out Asus' official website.
We'll cover these VPN Fusion setup steps:
- Get your key pair
- I have a key pair
- I don't have a key pair
- Choose a Surfshark server
- Configure the VPN fusion interface
- Ensure the connection is successful
Get your key pair
There are two ways we can go from here. You might have generated a key pair, and you'll be able to use it. Or, we will have to generate one.
If you have a key pair already, continue the tutorial as usual. If you do not, you should move on to the I don’t have a key pair section.
I have a key pair
- Go to Surfshark's login page and log in. Then, visit VPN > Manual setup. Choose the Router option and click on WireGuard.
- In the next window, click on I have a key pair.
- Name your key pair and click Next.
- Enter your public key and hit Save.
I don't have a key pair
- Go to Surfshark's login page and log in. Then, visit VPN > Manual setup. Choose the Router option and click on WireGuard.
- In the next window, click on I don't have a key pair.
- Name your new key pair.
- Click on Generate a new key pair.
NOTE: Copy and store the generated key pairs on your device. You will not be able to check them here again.
Choose a Surfshark server
Once you have your key pair, you should see a Choose a location button. Click on it. Here, you'll find the list of available locations to connect to. Select one and hit the download button.
Configure the VPN Fusion interface
- Log in to your Asus router's web interface. You can access it by entering your router's default gateway IP address into your browser's URL bar. By default, it usually is 192.168.8.1.
Alternatively, you can enter this address: http://router.asus.com/ - Once there, you'll have to log in. By default, the username and password both are 'admin'.
- On your router's web panel interface's left side, look for the VPN option and click on it. Select the VPN Fusion tab.
- Configure a new connection by pressing on Add profile.
-
Change the VPN type to WireGuard and click on Upload Config. You will have to select the configuration file you have downloaded earlier.
NOTE: After uploading the configuration file, every field should now be filled in with the respective server details.
- Configure which devices are affected by the VPN tunnel. You'll see an option to select the devices detected individually or apply it to the entire network.
- Click on the 'pen' icon (1) and the list will appear. Afterward, toggle the slider next to the device you wish to be affected by the VPN encryption (2).
-
Enable the configured VPN Client profile for the connection to be established.
Ensure the connection is successful
We always recommend checking if Surfshark VPN is working after setting it up for the first time. You can easily do it by performing Surfshark IP leak test and a DNS leak test. For your convenience, both are available on our website.
