How to disable IPv6 on macOS

Disable IPv6 on macOS Sonoma and newer versions

  1. Click the Apple menu  and select System Settings:


     
  2. Select Network from the left sidebar. Then, choose the network connection (Wi‑Fi, Ethernet, etc.) for which you want to change the IPv6 settings:


     
  3. Click Details… under the selected network:


     
  4. Click the TCP/IP tab. Then, locate the Configure IPv6 option and set it to Link‑local only:


     
  5. Click OK to save the changes. 
  6. You may be prompted to enter your administrator (computer) credentials to confirm the update.

 

Disabling IPv6 on a macOS Monterey device

  1. Click the Apple menu  and select System Preferences:


     
  2. In the System Preferences window, click Network:


     
  3. Select the network connection listed on the left (usually Wi‑Fi or Ethernet), then click the Advanced:


     
  4. Go to the TCP/IP tab at the top. Besides Configure IPv6, set it to Off

    NOTE: If Off is not available, select Link‑local only instead:


     
  5. Click OK to save the changes:


     
  6. Click Apply to confirm the update. You may be prompted to enter your administrator (computer) credentials:


     

NOTE: If you use multiple network types (for example, switching between Wi‑Fi and Ethernet), repeat these steps for each network.
