How to fix Surfshark VPN speed issues on Fire TV devices running Vega OS?

Surfshark VPN is now available on Vega OS, Amazon’s new Linux-based operating system for Fire TV devices.

Vega OS is currently available on the Fire TV Stick 4K Select (2025). Amazon is expected to expand support to additional Fire TV devices and smart TVs over time.

Since Vega OS is still new, the Surfshark app currently offers core VPN functionality. If you run into slow speed issues, the steps below should help.

How to troubleshoot slow speed issues

If the VPN won’t connect or disconnects frequently:

  1. Try a different server

Open the Surfshark app and connect to the Fastest server option.
  2. Check your internet connection

Make sure your Fire TV or smart TV has a stable internet connection before launching Surfshark.
  3. Disable other VPNs

Other VPN apps can conflict with Surfshark and slow your connection. Disable or quit any other VPN apps, reboot your device, and test your speed again.
  4. Reinstall the Surfshark app

Uninstall Surfshark from your Vega OS device, restart the device, and install the app again from the app store.

NOTE: The Surfshark app on Vega OS currently supports only the WireGuard protocol, so protocol switching is not available.
