This article answers the most common questions about Surfshark’s Refer & Earn program, including how rewards work, how much you can earn, and when you’ll receive your payout.
Before participating, please review the Terms of Service to confirm which rewards are available in your region.
How does Refer and Earn work?
- Share your unique referral link.
- Your friend opens the link, chooses a Surfshark subscription, and creates an account.
- After your friend stays subscribed for 31 days, you receive a reward — either money or free subscription months, depending on your eligibility.
If you choose money, you receive a commission that’s added to your Surfshark wallet.
For example, if your friend purchases a 24‑month Surfshark One plan for $100, you earn 20%, which equals $20.
What rewards can I receive?
Depending on your eligibility, you can receive either:
- Money (commission paid to your Surfshark wallet), or
- Free subscription months
How much can I earn?
- There’s no limit to how many friends you can refer.
- You earn a commission (excluding tax) from each friend’s initial purchase only.
- The commission does not apply to later upsells or extensions.
- The current commission rate is 20%.
How many free months do my friend and I receive?
Both you and your friend receive free months based on the plan your friend purchases:
- 1 free month with a 1‑month plan
- 3 free months with a 12‑month plan
- 3 free months with a 24‑month plan
What’s included in the free months?
The free months are added to your existing Surfshark subscription (Starter, One, or One+).
When will I receive my free months?
Once your referred friend has been subscribed for 31 days, go to the Referrals table on your Rewards page to claim your free months.
Why can I only receive free months instead of money?
Due to region-based restrictions, some users can only receive free subscription months as a reward.

How do payouts work?
To withdraw money:
- Your wallet balance must reach $25.
- Payouts are made to PayPal. You’ll be asked to provide your PayPal details when requesting a payout.
- All payouts are made in USD.
NOTE: Your bank may apply fees or currency exchange rates, which can reduce the final amount received.
When will I receive my payout?
After you request a payout, the money will be sent within the first 10 business days of the following calendar month.
Why can’t I pay out yet?
You won’t be able to withdraw funds if your wallet balance hasn’t reached the $25 minimum payout threshold.
How can I track my referrals?
Go to Rewards in your Surfshark account and check the Referrals table to view the status of your referrals and rewards.
