How to allow VPN configuration access for WireGuard® and Dausos on macOS

In this article, you’ll learn how to grant the required macOS system permissions to the Surfshark app so the WireGuard® and Dausos protocols can work properly.

On macOS, WireGuard and Dausos require explicit permission to add VPN configurations. Without allowing these permissions, Surfshark may fail to connect when WireGuard and Dausos are selected.

Before you begin

Make sure that:

• The Surfshark application is installed in the Applications folder (not Downloads or any other directory);
• You have an active Surfshark subscription, which you can get on our pricing page;
• Note that Dausos is currently available only in the macOS App Store app.

Grant VPN configuration access on macOS Tahoe

Follow these steps to set up WireGuard and Dausos on your macOS device:

1. When you connect for the first time, a prompt to enable protection will appear. Click Open Login Items & Extensions:
   
   
    
2. Click the information button (ⓘ) next to Surfshark:
   
   
    
3. Toggle the Security Extension on and click Done:
   
   
    
4. Authenticate using your Mac password or Touch ID:
   
   
    
5. Next, click Add VPN Configuration:
   
   
    
6. Select Allow to confirm and add the VPN configurations for Surfshark:
   
   

Grant VPN configuration access on macOS Sonoma or Sequoia

To set up WireGuard® and Dausos on your macOS Sonoma or Sequoia device, follow the steps below:

1. When you attempt to connect for the first time, a system pop‑up will appear. Click Open System Settings:
   
   
    
2. You’ll see a message indicating that Surfshark was blocked from loading. Click Allow to proceed:
   
   
    
3. Authenticate using your Mac password or Touch ID:
   
   
    
4. When prompted, click Add VPN Configuration:
   
   
    
5. Confirm the action by clicking Allow to add VPN configurations for Surfshark:
   
   

Set up WireGuard® and Dausos on your macOS Monterey device

Follow the steps below to set up WireGuard® and Dausos on your macOS Monterey device:

1. When you attempt to connect for the first time, a system pop‑up will appear. Click Open Security Preferences:
   
   
    
2. In the Security & Privacy window, click the lock icon in the bottom-left corner of the screen:
   
   
    
3. Enter your Mac user account password and click Unlock. Alternatively, you can authenticate using Touch ID:
