How to install or update .NET on a Windows device

This article will show you how to install or update the .NET on your Windows operating system. For Surfshark app to work and connect to the server successfully, it needs to run with .NET on the side. If you’re encountering issues with the Surfshark connection, this is one of many ways to resolve it.

 

NOTE: Surfshark apps from version 5.12.0 and later require .NET version 8.0 or later.

 

To download and install the .NET, you will have to download and install four following installers:

How to install or update .NET on Windows

  1. After clicking any of the links above, the download will begin automatically. You can also choose a desired location for your installation file. We are saving it in the Downloads folder.

  2. If the installation does not begin automatically, click on the manual download button on the same page.

  3. Once the download is complete, launch the installation file. If you are using a different browser, simply look for the downloaded file in the Downloads tab or your Downloads folder.

  4. A setup window will pop up. Click on Install. You will need Administrator rights in order to continue.

    If you already have .NET Core 7.0 (or a newer one) installed, an error will appear that stops the process. You don't need to proceed further, so press Close.

  5. After the installation is complete, you will get a message confirming that it was indeed successful. Feel free to press Close now.

  6. Now, to finalize the installation, reboot your device.
