In this article, you will learn the basics of the newly introduced Bypasser feature on macOS.
You will need a macOS device with Surfshark installed and an active subscription. You can get a subscription on the Surfshark plans & pricing page if you don't have one.
Bypasser is a feature that allows specific apps & websites to be routed via the VPN tunnel.
We'll go through the following:
Enable Bypasser
- Open the Surfshark application. On the left-hand side panel, click Settings.
- In the Settings tab, click on VPN settings.
- Once there, click on Bypasser.
- When turning on Bypasser for the first time, you'll see options to Add website or Add app.
If you've used Bypasser on macOS before, you'll be able to toggle it on or off.
Select applications
- Click Add app.
If you've added websites or apps to the bypasser list before, you'll have to click here: - You will see a list of all applications visible on your device. To add the app(s) to Bypass VPN, leave a checkmark next to them. Once you're done, press Add.
- Please note that when using the Bypasser for the first time, you'll have to Allow the Surfshark system extension via System Settings.
- If you can't find the application on this list, click Open finder and locate the app.
- Reconnect to any location on Surfshark, and the applications on the Bypass VPN list will bypass the VPN coverage.
Select websites

To bypass certain websites instead of apps, select Add website.
If you've added websites or apps to the bypasser list before, you'll have to click here:

A window will appear with a field where you can input the website's URL. Once you're done, click Add.
- Reconnect to any location on Surfshark, and the websites or IP addresses on the Bypass VPN list will bypass the VPN coverage.
