How to use Alternative ID

In this article, you will learn how to use Alternative ID on the browser extension, web app, iOS, Android, and macOS.

You will need an active Surfshark subscription to use Alternative ID. You can check subscription options on our pricing page. To proceed, you will also need to set up the Alternative ID.

Copy your Alternative ID on the browser extension

 

  1. Open the Surfshark browser extension, go to the Alternative ID tab, and click Copy all info on the right side of the window.

    You can also copy specific information by clicking the copy button that appears on the field you are hovering on.

      
  2. Then, paste your Alternative ID information on the website where you do not want to expose your real identity, and that is it.

    NOTE: Once you register using your Alt ID, the emails will be forwarded to your real email inbox. 

 

Copy your Alternative ID on web app

 

  1. Log into your account on the Surfshark login page, go to the Alternative ID tab, and click Copy all details on the right side of the window.

     

    You can also copy specific information by clicking the copy button on the specific field. 

       
  2. Then, paste your Alternative ID information on the website where you do not want to expose your real identity, and that is it.

    NOTE: Once you register using your Alt ID, the emails will be forwarded to your real email inbox.


  3. With the most recent update, you can also create up to three alternative emails. First, press on Add new Alt email.


  4. Now, you will get an option to either Auto-generate it or you can Edit manually. Once done, press on Create new Alt email.


  5. After you are done, the newly generated email will appear next to the first one. To use it, you can press the copy button.


    All alternative emails you will create will forward emails to your real inbox.
     

 

Copy your Alternative ID on Android or iOS

 

  1. Open the Surfshark application for Android or iOS, tap on the One tab, and then on Alternative ID

     
  2. Tap Copy all info and paste the information on the website you are signing up on. You can also copy specific information by tapping the copy button on the specific field.

      
  3. After you register using your Alternative ID, the emails will be forwarded to your real email inbox. 

 

Copy your Alternative ID on macOS

 

  1. Open the Surfshark app for macOS, go to the Alternative ID tab on the left, and click Copy all info on the right side of the window.

    You can also copy specific information by clicking the copy button that appears on the field you are hovering on.

       
  2. Paste your Alternative ID information on the website you are signing up on. Once you register using your Alternative ID, the emails will be forwarded to your real email inbox.

 

Troubleshoot Alternative Email issues

 

The most common reason for not receiving emails from your Alternative Email is because it is marked as spam. To make sure that is not the case, open your email, enter the Spam folder, and look for your Alternative Email. If you're able to find it, unmark it as spam.
